The widest participation is in California, followed by California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Ohio, Oregon, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia.
Headquartered in Oakland, California, Kaiser's business plan is based on affordable health insurance for all individuals regardless of income level. The organization implements this successful practice through coordinating physician groups that operate as a unit. These, in turn, work closely with hospitals, therapists, and pharmacies to provide an umbrella of precise and effective care. The Kaiser Permanente health plans are open to individuals and employer groups. Only residents of California can quality for individual insurance. Group enrollments, however, are not limited regionally, but to be eligible a licensed business must have at least two employees. No employer-based applicant will be assessed for pre-existing conditions. Individual policies may require exclusions for specific health issues. Kaiser Permanente also offers Medicare supplemental insurance for individuals age 65 and above.
